International Colloquium on Saint Augustine’s Sermones ad populum
Turnhout and Leuven, May 29-31 2008
On May 29-31 2008, the research units History of Church and Theology and Literary Studies: Latin Literature of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in collaboration with the Academic Board of the Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina (Turnhout), the Revue bénédictine (Maredsous) and the Augustinian Historical Institute (Heverlee) housed an international conference on Augustine’s Sermones ad populum. The conference brought together scholars who have made important contributions to the study of Augustine’s work in general and his preaching in particular, as well as specialists in the field of Early Christian homiletics.
The colloquium took place in Leuven and at the new Corpus Christianorum premises, the ‘Sint-Annaconvent’ in the Turnhout beguinage. The proceedings will be published by Brepols Publishers in a volume of Instrumenta Patristica et Mediaevalia. Publication is planned for Spring 2009.

Official opening of the Corpus Christianorum - Library & Knowledge Center
Currently, the premises house the Corpus Christianorum Library & Knowledge Center, including the specialized library, the editorial staff of Corpus Christianorum and the CTLO (center for computer assisted study of Latin texts). The official opening of the new site took place on Saturday 7 June 2008 in the presence of invited guests. Speeches by the Academic staff of Corpus Christianorum and other eminent figures in the field of academic studies and cultural heritage were combined with musical entertainment and refreshments in the charming context of the seventeenth-century Turnhout beguinage.
An open day for visitors followed on Sunday 8 June 2008.
New initiative within Corpus Christianorum: translations of Patristic and Medieval Latin and Greek texts
A new series has been launched comprising translations in five languages – English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – of texts which are available as Corpus Christianorum editions.
If you have completed a translation (or even a preliminary draft) of the text which you have edited or are editing, or indeed of any text previously published in one of our major Latin or Greek series (Series Latina, Continuatio Mediaevalis, Series Graeca) we would be happy to offer our assistance in undertaking its publication. You will find detailed guidelines concerning the new series elsewhere on this website: see the Author Information page or the Corpus Christianorum in Translation page.

The history of the beguinage of Turnhout (Belgium) goes back to the fourteenth century. From early on in that history, apart from individual beguine housesm one also finds so-called 'convents', communal houses for young or destitute beguines. Thus, in 1623 the 'Sint-Annaconvent' was erected. From the dedication to Saint Anne, patron saint of lace-workersm we can assume that the house accomodated a lace workshop and school. Currently, the premises house the CORPVS CHRISTIANORVM headquarters. In 1998 the Turnhout beguinage - together with twelve other beguinages - was registered on Unesco's official World Heritage List.
