CCCM - Gerardi Magni Opera omnia

Overview  |  Publications  |  In preparation  |  Guidelines

The series Gerardi Magni Opera omnia consists of an edition in seven volumes of the collected works of Geert Grote, founder of the religious reform movement Deuotio Moderna († 1384). Up to now only a small part of Grote's extensive literary output has been published in satisfactory editions. Most of his works have already been published in the nineteenth century, but those editions can in some cases best be characterized as transcripts based on one, two or three often unluckily selected manuscript witnesses, where the main criterion for the choice was the vicinity of a given library's manuscript department to the editor's house. For some texts, most notably Grote's Latin translations of texts originally written in Middle Dutch by the Brabantine mystic Jan van Ruusbroec and his followers, the editions in Corpus Christianorum are editiones principes.
The establishment of an editorial board in 1997 stimulated the progress of the Opera omnia project.
