In memoriam Prof. G. J. M. Bartelink (1924-2024)

The Corpus Christianorum shares in grief at the passing of Gerard J. M. Bartelink (1924-2024), Emeritus Professor of Ancient Christian Greek and Latin, Vulgar and Medieval Latin at the Radboud University Nijmegen.

In 1989, at the occasion of his sixty-fifth birthday, Professor Bartelink was presented with Fructus centesimus (IPM, 19). He contributed to Festschriften in the same series, celebrating his close colleagues A. A. R. Bastiaensen (Eulogia [IPM, 24, 1991]) and L. J. Engels (Media latinitas [IPM, 28, 1996]), as well as to the Sacris Erudiri issue (32-1, 1991) dedicated to the memory of his predecessor in Nijmegen, Professor Christine Mohrmann. His Greek text of the Vita Antonii (Sources Chrétiennes, 400, Paris [Le Cerf], 1994) supplements the Vitae Antonii Versiones latinae edited in CCSL, 170 (2019).

A touching In memoriam by Vincent Hunink and Roald Dijkstra can be read here.
